The recycled wool used in these mats typically comes from the New Zealand wool carpet industry. Carpet offcuts or incorrect colour specifications are among reasons the wool is recycled. The recycled wool mats, therefore, have a multi-coloured grey appearance which is aesthetically pleasing and doesn’t stick out (compared to white).

We have two thickness available, measured in GSM (grams per square meter):

• 450 GSM – effective for 12-months +

• 750 GSM – effective for 18-months +

How They Work

Wool weed mats function by effectively blocking a significant portion of sunlight, thus aiding in the prevention of undesired regrowth and weeds, hindering the development of your plants. Additionally, wool has the capacity to retain moisture, gradually releasing it into the soil as necessary, promoting optimal plant growth. As the wool eventually decomposes, it releases nutrients back into the soil, serving as a natural fertiliser.

Important Note: To achieve optimal outcomes, ensure the removal of all weeds before placing the wool weed mats. Leaving the mats exposed may result in wind-blown seeds settling on top and sprouting, necessitating removal.
